God has given those of us who are in Christ-centered recovery a huge task. We are to be the light and hope for people walking through the doors of recovery for the first time. God’s task for us is one of the greatest given to any of His Children. We are His lifeline to a world filled with hopelessness and despair. God has entrusted us with this great honor of being on the front lines in this battle for lives and souls.
We have been given a huge responsibility that is only offered to a select few. God’s gift is given to us because we are uniquely qualified to serve Him and others based on the fact that we freely admit our brokenness. To deny brokenness is to deny God’s gift of serving Him and others on the front lines of recovery.
Jesus says “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” Jesus is telling us in this Beatitude, “If you aren’t broken, I can’t use you.” We admit our brokenness and God opens the doors of service and recovery for us to walk through. We are uniquely qualified to serve God in a way that is not possible for those who refuse to admit their brokenness. We are the poor in spirit and ours is the Kingdom of Heaven!
