We all need each other. God created us to be in community with one another. In Scripture, when God created Adam, He said that it was not good for Adam to be alone. He then created Eve so that man would never need to be alone. The major reason for depression and dysfunction comes from our attempts to isolate ourselves from each other.
When we are not in a community of Believers, we tend to have difficulties in our daily lives. Unity in spirit, and in person, is important in the healing process. Most of the healing we experience in recovery comes from being a part of a recovery community. When we are alone, we are in bad company. We are easy prey for the enemy when we don’t have a faith community.
Unity is what holds our recovery groups together. We may not always agree on everything that happens in our groups, but we set aside our differences for the common welfare of the group. The desire for unity plays a major role in the health of a recovery group. Each of us has a part to play in making sure our groups are safe for those who are entering them for the first time. We are all the Body of Christ of which we have a responsibility to each other, individually and as a group.
