Even when the way goes through
Death Valley,
I’m not afraid
when you walk by my side.
Your trusty shepherd’s crook
makes me feel secure.
Psalm 23:4
The question was asked, “What’s the one thing that has caused us the most pain?” Many of us think back through our lives to a certain situation and try to remember a time when we experienced a significant hurt. In reality, no one situation has caused us as much pain as the avoidance of pain. There could be trauma or tremendous loss in our lives but, when we look at the significant impact that when it’s a feeling with our pain has caused, we see the real devastation that occurred.

Recovery in Christ gives us the opportunity to walk through our pain with Christ and our community of Believers in recovery. We have attempted to go around and over our pain, and each time the results were the same. It’s impossible to get past our pain unless we are willing to face it head on and walk through it. Avoidance of pain only delays the inevitable and causes more pain.

The great news for us is that we have a Lord and Savior who will be right there with us as we meet our past pain head-on. We also have our recovery groups that will love and support us as we walk in faith through everything we have ever attempted to avoid. There is something beautiful waiting for each of us on the other side. Christ is using the pain we are walking through to mold us into His image and give us an amazing testimony of faith and trust in Him. We walk through the pain we have avoided and into the loving arms of Christ.

Today’s Prayer
Father God, I am walking through the pain to get to the other side. No longer am I avoiding what I need to face. You are there with me to guide and comfort me. You are the God of all comfort who holds me tight through difficult times. You are there on the other side of all the things I need to walk through. Thank You Father God for leading me through and never forsaking me. In Jesus name, Amen.
