Amazon recently put out a list of the most highlighted lines in books on Kindle. Yes, Amazon can track that. The most highlighted passage of any book on Kindle comes from The Hunger Games, Catching Fire. In the book, Katniss is explaining how she sees her mother. The passage reads, “Because sometimes things happen to people and they’re not equipped to deal with them.” The reason so many people highlight this passage might indicate that there are a lot of people who are struggling with things they have no idea how to deal with.
One of the lies of this world is, “God isn’t going to give us anything we can’t handle.” The truth is God has given us free will and has set this world up so that things do happen that we can not handle. Why would God do this? Because we should be relying on God and not attempting to face our struggles without Him. We should be going to God with everything. Alone, we can do nothing, but with Christ, we are well equipped to handle anything the world or the enemy throws at us.
Every one of us is dealing with our own struggles. Being involved in the lives of others means that we are going to experience conflicts, betrayal, gossip, and all the other things that go along with being in a recovery ministry. We need to be gentle with one another because we all have stuff going on in our lives. God has equipped us with the right tools needed to face whatever happens in our lives. In recovery, we have a toolbox full of tools that help us to cope with everything. We are well equipped to deal with anything if we are seeking Christ as our strength and not our own.
