Who Do You Say You Are?
Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:2 MSG
We do something is Celebrate Recovery that is unique among all the 12 step programs. Besides having a higher power that is real, took on human form and actually has power. When we introduce ourselves we say “Hello. My name is _______ and I’m a believer in Jesus Christ and I struggle with……
We do not identify with the struggle. We don’t place our identity in the struggle. We are not our hurts, habits, or hangups. Our identity is in Christ. Not our problem.
This is a huge difference from other 12 step programs where people identify with the problem. The problem with identifying with the problem is we get stuck in being the problem and we never move out and away from the problem. We never get to fully experience victory and freedom from that problem. Our pain becomes who we are.
Christ centered recovery is different. We place our identity in freedom instead of something that will constantly hold us in bondage. And now we are a free people. People who are not enslaved by addiction or compulsive self destructive behaviors. We now get to live life to the full. We get to grow and mature in Christ.

Father God, in you I have a new identity. I am not what the world says I am. I belong to you and am now in a royal forever family. Thank you Father that you have given me freedom from my struggles and allowed me to know that I am not my struggle. I am much more that any struggle. I am yours. And in being yours I now have freedom I could have never imagined before. Amen.
