Very few things in life stay the same for very long. Change is the one constant in life. Situations change, people go through changes, technology changes, and even our communities change as the population grows. Jesus is our one true constant. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
As we progress through recovery, we are going to experience growth and change. When we look back at where we were this time last year in our recoveries, we should be seeing that our lives have changed. The only thing that ever stays the same in our recoveries, besides Jesus, is the ongoing process of change. This is where Jesus is always at work in us. He’s the one thing that stays the same and the one thing that causes changes in us. Jesus is always the same, yet He’s always making changes in us.
There is comfort in knowing that Jesus is our constant while we are continually in the process of change. In Christ-centered recovery, we experience the constant friction of change. This is how we know that Christ is with us and doing His work in us. Change is often uncomfortable because it means we have to step outside our comfort zones. Our comfort should never rest in what we are doing or have done. Christ is our comfort as we go through all the changes He is leading us through in recovery.
